We all love positive people don’t we? It feels good to be around them; they inspire us and motivate us with their cheerful demeanor. They help us see the good in others and the blessings in difficult situations. We want to feel as happy as they are… which can seem really tough in some situations! But the good news is, you can train yourself to be positive in any situation using the following positive thinking exercises.

Positive thinking exercises will transform your life! Why is positivity so important?

  • People will be drawn to you and they will want to help you (your optimism is contagious). This will help you in all areas of your life – attracting the right people makes it easier to achieve your goals.
  • You will be able to hold your focus on your goal (what you want) instead of on your problems (which you don’t want). What you think about comes about. Positive thinking is aligned with your goals; negative thinking is not.
  • You will be happier being able to choose positive responses to life’s events than you would be if you allowed yourself to react with automatic negativity. Positive responses are those that make you feel good. It’s that simple.
  • When you are positive, your energetic vibration is high. The higher your vibration, the faster you will manifest whatever you want!

Positive thinking can, and should, become as automatic a thought process as negativity is now. Most of us think we’re pretty positive, but unconsciously we may be more negative than we believe. Do a quick assessment:

  • Do you worry?
  • Criticize?
  • Blame?
  • Procrastinate?
  • Are you often anxious, impatient, angry or frustrated?

These are symptoms of automatic negativity. These reflect the negative beliefs held in the subconscious mind. Beliefs trigger automatic negative thoughts, speech and behaviors. But even though they may be deeply entrenched, they are not cast in stone, either! It’s not that difficult to create a positive mental/emotional environment that will make you see what might go right instead of what might go wrong. This alone is a huge, huge relief from the stress of worrying!

Daily Positive Thinking Exercises

Just like physical exercise, these mental/emotional exercises require daily practice until they become automatic. Once they’re automatic, you’ll experience a dramatic shift in your happiness and you’ll start seeing the good things coming to you very, very quickly.

1. Say no to negative thoughts. Make it a point every day to replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts. If you find yourself in the throes of negativity, say NO to those thoughts and replace them with mental images of what you desire in that situation.

Surround yourself with happy people!2. Surround yourself with happy people. Avoid people who are angry, depressed, negative, sour, jaded, critical, judgmental and dramatic. Like attracts like! Surround yourself with positivity and you’ll adopt it as your way of being too, and very quickly at that! It feels GOOD to be positive!

3. Be grateful. This may be the single most powerful positivity exercise! Give thanks for everything in your life, including the difficulties, frustrations, struggles and trials. That includes the people who make you angry and frustrated. Give serious thought to what the silver lining and the blessing might be in every situation. There IS one, if you allow yourself to see it! Give thanks for what you have, and for what you want to have. Think about your life in terms of what is great, not what is missing. See difficult people as mirrors – there is something in their behavior that mirrors some belief you hold, even if it’s hard to admit that. Be grateful that these people are here to teach you (that doesn’t mean you have to hang out with them, just be compassionate and thankful).

4. Be a Yes/Smile Collector. Have fun collecting “yeses” and smile every day. You know smiles are contagious and they are instant mood-lifters. Do what you can to make people smile at you and say “yes” to you more often – offer to help, do something random and kind, cooperate, speak positive words, give them one of your best smiles (there is no shortage of these, so hand them out freely!).

5. Meditate. You can do a wonderful positive meditation if you focus on sending out love to everyone you know (again, including the difficult and annoying people!). Name them off one by one, and say and feel “I love you” to them. You will be astounded at how quickly you melt into that love, and how great it feels! Meditation is a good time to let go of your stress. A daily practice has many mental, emotional, physical and spiritual benefits.

6. Fake it ’til you make it. Some days, it’s almost impossible to feel positive. ALMOST. So put on a happy face – SMILE! – until the message from your facial muscles gets through to your brain and you start to feel happier. Doing positive things like helping others can snap you out of a funk. Even if you don’t feel like it, get up, get outside into the sunshine – and if there’s no sunshine, make some with your own wonderful smile!

Be grateful and learn to see the YES.7. Do unto others. It’s always good to do nice things for others; but especially powerful and helpful for you if you put aside your own struggles and focus on helping others. Volunteer at the homeless shelter or an animal shelter; spend a day clearing out your garage and donating unneeded items; offer to help a neighbor with their project; spend some time at a senior center. Do whatever makes you feel good, useful and valuable!

8. Learn to see the Yes. Use your imagination to see a potential positive outcome instead of a potential negative outcome. The future is in your hands! Creatively visualize what you want, and hold that mental image until it feels right and normal. This takes practice… that has a huge payoff!
